Residents of Erpakon village expressed their profound condemnation over the murder of 38-year-old Kyrmen Lyngdoh Nonglait by organising a black flag rally during his funeral procession today, demanding justice for the victim.
Nonglait was murdered on May 11 in Erpakon and his funeral was held today amidst the community’s outcry for justice.
Residents of Erpakon brandished black flags and banners, urging authorities to take decisive action against those responsible for the heinous crime.
Police arrested a suspect on Sunday night in connection with the murder, Raju Rajbhar from Kamrup in Assam. Rajbhar was employed in a dhaba in Erpakon.
Police said that the pair had been drinking when an altercation broke out between the two, in which Rajbhar allegedly struke Nonglait with a plank, causing serious injury. Rajbhar subsequently fled the scene and Nonglait succumbed to his injuries at Nongpoh Civil Hospital despite efforts being made to save him by villagers and medical personnel.
