South West Garo Hills police recovered the body of a 70-year-old woman today from a fish pond near the Ampati petrol pump at around 12:45 pm.
The woman, identified as Maneshwari Hajong, was a resident of Chelapara.
According to information received, police were informed that a body had been found at the pond after which the Fire and Emergency Services were deployed and the body recovered.
Police suspect the death to be one of accidental drowning, though a post-mortem report is awaited to ascertain the exact cause of death.
The victim was later identified by family members with an inquest being performed on the spot.
