Shillong, Dec 4: The East Khasi Hills District Magistrate has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the BNSS, banning the burning of forests.
The order said there has been deliberate burning of forest in and around the district, which will cause wildfires/forest fires. To ensure protection of the environment from degradation and to prevent further damage to the precious forest ecosystem, as well as threat to safety and loss of human lives it is necessary to ban burning of forests.
The order warns that violations will be met with strict legal action.
