Education got the highest allocation in the budget for 2024-25 presented by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in the Assembly today.
Among the top ten departments in terms of allocation, the budget allocated to the Education Department was Rs 3539 crore. It was followed by PWD (Rs 2130 crore), Community and Rural Development Department (Rs 2016 crore), Health Department (Rs 1970 crore), Planning Department (Rs 1967 crore), Finance Department (Rs 1865 crore), Power Department (Rs 1558 crore), Police and Fire Department (Rs 1370 crore), Urban Affairs Department (Rs 934 crore) and PHE Department (Rs 905 crore).
The budget also focused on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in which the total allocation for the 15 SDGs was to the tune of Rs 19,961 crore.
These include Poverty Alleviation (Rs 1812 crore), Hunger Alleviation (Rs 1635 crore), Health and Wellbeing (Rs 2170 crore), Quality Education (Rs 3666 crore), Gender Equality (Rs 40 crore), Clean Water and Sanitation (Rs 1405 crore), Affordable and Clean Energy (Rs 1092 crore), Decent Work and Economic Growth (Rs 529 crore), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (Rs 2949 crore), Reduced Inequalities (Rs 202 crore), Sustainable Cities and Communities (Rs 1480 crore), Responsible Consumption and Production (Rs 297 crore), Climate Action (Rs 515 crore), Life on Land (Rs 332 crore) and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (Rs 1838 crore).
