A one week winter camp for children between the ages of 5 and 12, under the theme ‘Catch them young’, was organised by the Educational Centre for Social Science Research, Counselling and Training (ECSSRCT) in collaboration with the Don Bosco Developmental Society Shillong.
The camp started on January 7 and ended on Saturday.
The camp provided participants with different learning experiences clubbed with fun, enjoyment and interaction through workshops on a variety of subjects.
Some of these included personal hygiene, which was designed to educate and encourage children to take care of themselves and follow a healthy hygiene routine, to become more introspective and aware of their physical and emotional needs and to prepare them to effectively handle stressors.
Other workshops were on confidence and self-love – designed to enable participants to handle setbacks, mistakes and failures with ease, to promote internal growth, value and self-respect – child safety – to reduce the likelihood of a child entering an unsafe situation, responding to an unsafe situation, increasing the child’s sense of confidence and thereby increasing their resilience – computer literacy and how to follow their dreams.
To sustain the interest of the participants and to simplify the message, several activities were also conducted during the camp including a singing competition, poster making competition, role play, group sharing and discussion, storytelling, presentation and tea party.
