Voice of the People Party (VPP) candidate for Jaiaw constituency Denzil R Chen, has filed a complaint with the election authority of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) against the Rangbah Shnong of Mawlai Mawdatbaki.
The Rangbah Shnong apparently refused to give a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the VPP candidate for holding an election rally in Mawlai Nongmali which is to be held on February 6.
“This is a direct violation of the order No.DCA.56/2024/Pt./3 dated 30.01.2025 issued by the Deputy Secretary to the Govt of Meghalaya, District Council Affairs Department,” Chen stated in his letter to District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills district.
Urging the East Khasi Hills District Election Officer to take action by today evening, the VPP candidate said he will be compelled to take immediate necessary action and address the issue before the appropriate competent authority.
It may be mentioned that recently, the Mawlai Town Dorbar had resolved to allow candidates campaigning for the KHADC election to use only common platforms to woo voters.
The VPP who opposed the idea had submitted a written complaint to the District Council Affairs (DCA) Department, terming it an “unhealthy” practice.
Following the complaint, the DCA Department directed the district election officers, sub-divisional officers, and returning officers to instruct the headmen and dorbar shnongs to allow public meetings of all political parties including independent candidates to ensure free and fair elections.
