An earthquake of 4.0 magnitude on the Richter Scale hit Meghalaya with its epicentre in East Garo Hills district, the National Centre for Seismology said.
The depth of the earthquake was measured around 5 km below the surface level. It occurred at 1:03 pm.
Official authorities confirmed that no casualties or property damage were recorded.
The tremors came after a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake rocked Thailand and neighbouring Myanmar, killing at least three people in Bangkok and burying dozens when a high-rise building under construction collapsed, and prompting Myanmar to declare a widespread state of emergency.
The midday temblor with an epicentre near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second largest city was followed by a strong 6.4 magnitude aftershock.
