Congress leader and Mylliem MDC Ronnie V Lyngdoh has termed the so-called double engine benefits claimed by the BJP as mere rhetoric to fool the people.
The party in Meghalaya has been harping on the need for a BJP-led state government to partner with that of the Centre in order to bring about real development for the people.
“Are you talking about a double engine without cylinders or are the double engine pickups weak?” Lyngdoh said mockingly while speaking to Highland Post recently.
If the advantage is so great, then why was the BJP dumped out of power in the Delhi Municipal Corporation and Himachal Pradesh Assembly, he further questioned.
“You can fool people with certain issues for sometime by playing the communal, religious card, etc but the ground realities like the economic, education and health condition of the people will matter in the long run,” Lyngdoh added. “During the UPA reign (led by the Congress) it said ‘Look East’ with an intention that there will be infrastructure where we can carry on trade and commerce with South East Asian countries but now Modi is saying ‘Act East’ but it’s not happening but only rhetoric.”
The BJP, though part and parcel of the MDA government in Meghalaya, has often threatened to pull out of the coalition but Lyngdoh is buying none of it.
“This is also just to fool the people because you don’t even need to withdraw from the government but you can simply throw the NPP (which leads the MDA) out of the NDA (which governs at the Centre),” he said.
