Shillong, Oct 8: The office of the Jirang Block Development Officer held a distribution ceremony today and handed over essential assistive aids to persons with disabilities and senior citizens.
This effort aims to extend crucial support to those needing assistance with mobility, hearing and daily living activities.
The chief guest at the programme was local MLA Sosthenes Sohtun. Representatives from the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) were also present.
Out of 530 identified beneficiaries from Jirang block, 200 received aids, including wheelchairs, tricycles, walking sticks, hearing aids (sound amplifiers and ear devices), etc. These aids were provided under schemes like the Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) and Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY).
