Editor,
The state of Meghalaya has blessed with a beautiful landscape spread across various regions and a bracing climate unlike in other Northeastern states, on top of this is the enormous bounty of natural resources and rare earth minerals unexplored however looking towards the agriculture and horticulture sector these have their own blessings and opportunities in many ways and not to miss out the veterinary animal husbandry sector.
This sector that I mentioned here has been a less than an attractive option for students and entrepreneurs because of various underlying factors. However the animal husbandry sector has its important role to play right from supporting nascent dairy cow owners, milkmen and others down below the value chain.
The Indo-Danish project has not made news as it was during its early inception and those of us living near the international border with Bangladesh would remember when we would buy the famous Red Cow milk tins exclusively from Australia via-Bangladesh. This is something that the state needs to look back and go for policy reforms in uplifting the dairy sector since dairy technology has its huge potential for generating direct and indirect employment and creating a huge investment cycle in the state, hope that the government authorities take look at what solutions can be done to support the state dairy sector.
