Ka Sur U Paidbah Ka Bri U Hynñiewtrep has demanded that Meghalaya take strong steps in the border dispute with Assam, including allocating 30 per cent of all developmental funds to the border region to counter the neighbouring state.
The body also demanded that the government constitute a new boundary commission and a committee comprising the heads of the district councils and traditional leaders to resolve the dispute, the group’s Chairman, Rastinwell Thabah, said today.
With the central government reportedly promising to settle a similar dispute between Mizoram and Assam by 2021, Thabah wondered why Meghalaya is “deprived of such an opportunity.”
