The State government has invited deficit school teachers for a discussion on their pending issues and problems on November 15.
The teachers under the Khasi Jaiñtia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) and Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers and Employees Association (GHDSTEA) have welcomed the invitation by officials of the education department.
KJDSTA president, Babu Kular Khonjirem today said, “We have decided to attend the meeting and we are hopeful that it bears fruit.”
The teachers are demanding the state government to extend the retired benefit schemes, enhancement of the death cum-retirement gratuity from Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh which is at par with the recommendation of the 5th pay Commission, release of the pending arrears of the revised pay scale, medical reimbursement and to implement the recommendation of the commission.
In March this year, the deficit school teachers took a three-day mass casual leave in protest against the Meghalaya’s government non-acceptance of their demands that left many schools without any teachers.
