Editor,
Strongman Vladimir Putin seems unfazed when he openly said on Tuesday that Russia will not take part in the new START treaty which is an arms control agreement to cut down much of the heavy nuclear inventory of the United States and Russia. Biden’s surprise visit to Ukraine was not a welcoming sight to the former chief of the Federal Security Service (FSB), blaming the West for adding more fuel.
According to Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Russia and USA combined together for over 90 per cent of all nuclear weapons. The only time the two superpowers headed to near Armageddon was during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.
The Kremlin’s chessboard maneuver indeed is scary when one reads Tom Clancy’s Red Storm Rising. India’s tectonic shift in embracing more American military hardware will not distance the relationship with their old friend perhaps they could play a larger role to mediate straining relationships between the former giants of the Cold War towards a peaceful accord.
