Albertus Lapang, a senior member of the National People’s Party (NPP) in Ri-Bhoi and nephew of former Chief Minister DD Lapang, has officially announced his resignation from all leadership roles and membership of the party.
Lapang, who served as the organising secretary of the NPP’s youth wing (the National People’s Youth Front) in the district, was also a key party functionary from the Jirang block. He tendered his resignation through a formal letter addressed to the NPP Ri-Bhoi president and NPP Jirang president.
Lapang was one of the hopefuls to be the NPP’s choice for the Jirang seat in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) election earlier this year. However, the party decided to go with the Jirang MLA, Sosthenes Sohtun, who was able to retain the seat for the NPP in the face of the Voice of the People Party (VPP) wave.
In his resignation letter, Lapang stated that his decision to step down from the party was not motivated by any differences or conflict with the NPP but was a personal decision based on individual reasons.
He extended his best wishes and blessings to the party’s leadership in both Ri-Bhoi district and Jirang block.
