East Jaiñtia Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal has instructed two residential shelter homes in Khliehriat to provide basic training in computers and other livelihood skills for children residing there.
Baranwal along with the district child protection officers visited the shelter homes for boys and girls and an orphanage managed by the Sein Raij Tuber Women’s Wing.
He said both the institutions are well managed. “All the children are admitted in schools and regularly go there as well. They also have in-house educators, para medical staff. Found the indoor sports and cultural materials like guitar, carom board, chess etc that were given by district administration in good condition and are being used regularly,” Baranwal said.
He informed that a kitchen garden will be setup at the girls’ shelter home and a doctor would also carry out monthly checkups in both centres.
Baranwal further appealed residents of the district to visit the centres and donate for the children in need.
