The Meghalaya government is yet to receive any reply from the Centre on the request to exempt students from the State from appearing for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).
However, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has extended the time for filing online applications for Common University Entrance Test (CUET) till March 30.
Commissioner and Secretary (Education) B D R Tiwari today said the NTA has only extended the date for filing of online applications to March 30 from March 12.
Meanwhile, cabinet minister and government spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh said the State government will follow up with the Education Ministry for getting Meghalaya students exempted from CUET.
It may be noted that on March 7, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had written to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to exempt students of Meghalaya seeking admission in central universities including NEHU from CUET.
In the letter, Sangma stated that Meghalaya has recently undergone a Legislative Assembly election, the results of which have been declared.
“This has resulted in the delay of State Board examination and in this regard, students are facing unprecedented challenges to attempt the CUET for the State level undergraduate institutions,” he had said in the letter.
