The Constitutional Rights Forum (CRF) has urged police to act against speeding motorists that are posing risk to the safety of pedestrians and cyclists in Tikrikilla area.
A written complaint was submitted to the officer in charge of the police station in Tikrikilla against reckless driving as well as violation of traffic rules and illegal parking.
The forum said that some drivers were endangering lives and violating traffic rules, especially during school hours from 8 am to 3 am. It called for restriction of movement of heavy trucks and dumpers, to ensure the safety of children.
Illegal parking along the narrow road has also caused problems for other vehicles to pass through especially on market days, which must be restricted to maintain traffic flow, the forum added.
Further the CRF has urged police to conduct regular checks on vehicles to ensure the proper functioning of indicator lights, prohibit modified exhaust pipes that contribute to noise pollution, to put a check on valid driving documents and to prevent those below the age of 18 from riding bikes.
