The Dorbar Shnong of Erpakon village in Ri-Bhoi now stands at ease after its decision to prohibit non-locals from working or running businesses in the village, including RN Sharma Hotel was accepted.
A meeting to discuss on the controversial village decision was held today in the village which was also attended by the owner of the hotel.
The decision to bar outsiders to from working there followed the murder of a villager, Kyrmen Lyngdoh Nonglait, with the prime suspect being a non-tribal in the employ of RN Sharma Hotel, owned by another non-tribal.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Rangbah Shnong of Erpakon M Thongni said the residents have expressed their satisfaction after they were informed that outsiders working at the hotel have left the village since June 13.
Thongni said the dorbar is hopeful that with such an order no such crimes will take place and thanked the people and civil society groups for their support.
