Meghalaya recorded 742 new cases of Covid-19 today, 974 recoveries and 13 fatalities.
With more recoveries than new infections, the recovery rate went up to 77.10 percent. The rolling average of new infections (on a seven-day basis) also improved for the fifth day running; it now stands at 787.00, a fall of 8.71 compared to yesterday.
Ten fatalities were added to East Khasi Hills’ figures today, with one each in West Garo Hills, West Jaintia Hills and Ri-Bhoi. Ten had Covid-19 pneumonia listed as a cause of death.
The deceased were identified as Lumborlang Marbaniang (49) of Lower Mawprem, Phirilda Nongsteng (66) of Mawlai Umshing, Baphiralin Lyngdoh (43) of Mawlai Mawdatbaki, Diamondstone Lyngdoh (61) of Pynursla, Maljila Ch Sangma (43) of Mawpun Golf Links, Bines Tongper (53) of Lailad Umling, Phrean Bareh (74) of Mission Compound in Jowai, Akum Laitphlang (50) of Mission Compound in Shillong, Rajesh Chaudhary (53) of IGP Point in Shillong, Suroju Nath (75) of Rilbong, Buddhant Syngai (49) of Sohra Kut Madan, Shidalin Shabong (60) of Laitlyngkot and Manik Sonowal (64) of Chandmary.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 316 of today’s reported infections, including 32 health workers, two returnees, 25 in Raj Bhavan, 11 in Laban, 21 in Laitkor, 21 in Madanrting, 20 in Mawlai, 11 in Nongmynsong, 13 in Umthli and 160 in various other neighbourhood clusters and categories.
West Garo Hills reported 84 new cases (including two health workers, one police personnel), South West Khasi Hills 80 (65 in Jashiar), Ri-Bhoi 65 (13 in Iewmawlong, two police, 15 in St Claret cluster), West Jaintia Hills 62 (four health workers, 10 in Moopyllaitsyiar, one returnee), South West Garo Hills 47 (11 in Garobadha, 16 in Rerapara), East Jaintia Hills 35 (23 factory workers, two returnees), North Garo Hills 20 (four health workers), East Garo Hills 12 (seven police), West Khasi Hills 12 (six in Umdein) and South Garo Hills nine (all high-risk).
There were also 974 recoveries today – 530 in East Khasi Hills, 172 in West Jaintia Hills, 88 in West Garo Hills, 46 in South West Garo Hills, 41 in West Khasi Hills, 23 in South Garo Hills, 19 in East Garo Hills, 17 in East Jaintia Hills, 15 in Ri-Bhoi, 14 in North Garo Hills and nine in South West Khasi Hills.
There are now 7,496 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 3,438 active cases, Ri-Bhoi 1,241, West Garo Hills 671, West Jaintia Hills 533, South West Garo Hills 418, South West Khasi Hills 303, East Jaintia Hills 248, North Garo Hills 190, West Khasi Hills 178, East Garo Hills 148 and South Garo Hills 128.
In all, Meghalaya has had 35,190 Covid-19 cases, of which 7,496 are active, 27,130 have recovered and 564 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has increased to 77.10 percent. The fatality rate is 1.60 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases now stands at 787.00.
