In view of the Covid-19 cases increasing six times faster in the second wave the District Level Covid-19 Committee meeting was held at DRDA Conference Hall, Tura to discuss and prevent the spread of the disease and take necessary precautions.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh informed that screening has already been started in Bajengdoba and any persons entering the districts from North East and other States need to register themselves in Meghalaya online application app and the timeframe for RTPCR test validity is 48 hours which is mandatory and added that if anyone tests positive should go for home quarantine for ten days.
Further, he said that as of now 30-40 beds are available in the Covid Ward in Tura Civil Hospital equipped with ICU facilities, however, he said that these facilities are meant for serious patients while mild and asymptomatic cases have to undergo home quarantine for the moment and institutional quarantine would be used as per the severity of the case.
Urging those eligible to get themselves vaccinated in different health care centres in the district, he said that there are enough vaccines in the district and avail the opportunity provided by the government and advised everyone to wear mask and follow covid protocols and that a fine of Rs. 1000 will be imposed immediately if anybody is found without wearing a mask especially in market places.
“As the situation is under control in the district at present, all schools and commercial establishments will function normally by following the Covid protocols strictly, however, the situation will be monitored and necessary instructions will be given, he informed.
Moreover, during the meeting problems of water scarcity, waste management problem, illegal encroachment was also discussed. Stating that beautification of Tura town is ongoing, he urge the women folks not to throw garbage during daytime on the roads and as it is planting season, he advised them to plant saplings to rejuvenate water sources and prevent landslips in the region and also to keep the town neat and clean by cleaning their respective localities and plant flowering plants near the roadside.
