Meghalaya recorded its highest single-day increase in Covid-19 infections since October 3 today, with 159 new cases recorded, along with 27 recoveries and two fatalities.
Both of the deceased were in East Khasi Hills, the Health Department informed. There have now been five fatalities linked to the coronavirus in the state in the first 11 days of this year.
East Khasi Hills recorded 131 new cases (including 12 returnees, nine armed forces personnel, nine in the Barik Brightwell Clinic cluster, eight health workers and eight in Jaiaw Laitdom), West Garo Hills 14, Ri-Bhoi six, West Jaiñtia Hills four, West Khasi Hills three and East Jaiñtia Hills one.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 25 recoveries, West Garo Hills one and West Jaiñtia Hills one.
There are now 578 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 475 active cases, West Garo Hills 58, Ri-Bhoi 21, West Jaiñtia Hills 10, South West Khasi Hills four, East Jaiñtia Hills four, West Khasi Hills four, North Garo Hills one, East Garo Hills one, South Garo Hills zero and South West Garo Hills zero.
In all, Meghalaya has had 85,463 Covid-19 cases, of which 578 are active, 83,396 have recovered and 1,489 have died from the virus.
