There were 532 new cases of Covid-19 recorded in Meghalaya, today, the second-highest figure this month. There were also 366 recoveries and four Covid-related fatalities, which was the lowest figure this month.
The new surge was on the back of 178 new infections reported from Ri-Bhoi. This is the third time in four days that the district has logged more than 100 cases and this is the biggest single-day increase.
East Khasi Hills reported 136 new infections, West Khasi Hills 62, West Garo Hills 52, West Jaiñtia Hills 37, South Garo Hills 16, East Jaiñtia Hills 14, South West Khasi Hills 14, East Garo Hills 11, North Garo Hills six and South West Garo Hills six.
East Khasi Hills recorded 102 recoveries, Ri-Bhoi 67, West Jaiñtia Hills 58, South West Khasi Hills 47, East Garo Hills 25, West Garo Hills 20, North Garo Hills 18, West Khasi Hills 13, South West Garo Hills eight, South Garo Hills five and East Jaiñtia Hills three.
One fatality each was recorded in East Khasi Hills, West Jaiñtia Hills, Ri-Bhoi and East Jaiñtia Hills.
There are now 4,391 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 1,469 active cases, Ri-Bhoi 966, West Garo Hills 541, West Jaiñtia Hills 449, West Khasi Hills 256, North Garo Hills 194, East Garo Hills 122, East Jaiñtia Hills 115, South Garo Hills 105, South West Khasi Hills 103 and South West Garo Hills 71.
In all, Meghalaya has had 53,244 Covid-19 cases, of which 4,391 are active, 47,963 have recovered and 890 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has dipped to 90.08 percent. The fatality rate decreased to 1.67 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases has dropped to 450.57 and has declined for new deaths to 6.57.
