There were seven Covid-related fatalities in Meghalaya today, the highest figure in eight days. There were also 188 new infections and 144 recoveries.
Five of the deaths were in East Khasi Hills, one in West Jaiñtia Hills and one in South West Khasi Hills. Six of the seven were unvaccinated, the Health Department informed.
East Khasi Hills recorded 101 new cases today, West Khasi Hills 44, Ri-Bhoi 17, West Jaiñtia Hills 12 and 14 between the other seven districts.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 87 recoveries, West Khasi Hills 24 and 33 between the other nine districts.
There are now 2,007 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 924 active cases, West Khasi Hills 414, West Jaiñtia Hills 223, Ri-Bhoi 178, South West Khasi Hills 118, West Garo Hills 82, East Jaiñtia Hills 36, East Garo Hills 14, North Garo Hills 10, South West Garo Hills six and South Garo Hills two.
In all, Meghalaya has had 77,877 Covid-19 cases, of which 2,007 are active, 74,524 have recovered and 1,346 have died from the virus. The recovery rate decreased to 95.69 percent. The fatality rate went back up to 1.73 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases declined marginally to 196.14 and rose for new deaths to 3.29.
