The total number of Covid-related deaths in Meghalaya reached exactly 1,400 today, with three new fatalities recorded in the state. There were also 169 new cases and 166 recoveries.
Two deaths were in East Khasi Hills and one in South West Khasi Hills. All three were unvaccinated, the Health Department informed. Although an unwelcome milestone was reached today, the overall fatality rate is much lower than it was at its peak during the second wave. There have been 89 Covid deaths in September so far, down on the 226 in August and just a fraction of the 407 in May. However, September’s total is still higher than any month before May.
East Khasi Hills recorded 95 new cases today, West Khasi Hills 40, Ri-Bhoi 20 and 14 between the other eight districts.
West Khasi Hills accounted for 69 recoveries, East Khasi Hills 62, South West Khasi Hills 12 and 23 between the other eight districts.
There are now 1,693 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 828 active cases, West Khasi Hills 374, Ri-Bhoi 207, West Jaiñtia Hills 175, South West Khasi Hills 44, West Garo Hills 28, East Jaiñtia Hills 22, East Garo Hills six, South West Garo Hills five, North Garo Hills two and South Garo Hills two.
In all, Meghalaya has had 81,161 Covid-19 cases, of which 1,693 are active, 78,068 have recovered and 1,400 have died from the virus. The recovery rate is 96.19 percent. The fatality is 1.72 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases is 168.29 and for new deaths is 2.14.
