Two more people died due to Covid-19 in Meghalaya, the Health Department informed today.
Uginia Rymbai (52), of Nongpoh in Ri-Bhoi, was admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital yesterday morning and died a few hours later. Cause of death was Covid-19 pneumonia with Type 1 respiratory failure, severe acute respiratory distress syndrome, Type 2 diabetes and hypertension.
Sunita Limbu (54), of Jhalupara in Shillong, was admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital on April 25. She passed away yesterday evening. Cause of death was Covid-19 pneumonia with Type 1 respiratory failure and severe acute respiratory distress syndrome.
Meanwhile, another 159 cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the state today, with more than half – 82 – being among returnees.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 116 of the new cases – 62 among returnees, five armed forces/paramilitaries, 14 high-risk contacts, 10 influenza-like illnesses (ILIs), four through screening, five severe acute respiratory infections (SARIs), three in Jail Road, one in Laban, two in Laitumkhrah, one in Lapalang, two in Mawlai, one in Nongmynsong, three in Nongrim Hills, two in Khyndailad and one in Polo.
West Khasi Hills reported 13 cases (eight returnees, five high-risk), Ri-Bhoi 12 (six through screening, five returnees, one armed forces/paramilitaries), West Garo Hills nine (four returnees, four high-risk, one armed forces/paramilitaries), South Garo Hills four (all through screening), East Jaiñtia Hills two (both ILIs), West Jaiñtia Hills two (both returnees) and South West Garo Hills one (returnee).
There were also 138 recoveries – 109 in East Khasi Hills, 12 in West Jaiñtia Hills, eight in Ri-Bhoi, five in West Khasi Hills, two in East Jaiñtia Hills and two in West Garo Hills.
There are now 1,475 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 1,061 active cases and Ri-Bhoi 147.
In all, Meghalaya has had 16,430 Covid-19 cases, of which 1,475 are active, 14,788 have recovered and 167 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has fallen to 90.01 per cent. The fatality rate is 1.02 per cent. More than 2.57 lakh doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered as of today in the state.
