Another two deaths connected to Covid-19 were reported in East Khasi Hills today, while active cases crossed the 1,500-mark.
Riangkhwat Khonglah (58), of Huroi village in East Jaiñtia Hills, was admitted to Nazareth Hospital early today morning and passed away half an hour later. Cause of death was Covid-19 pneumonia with hypertension.
Joplin Dkhar (64), of Nongkseh in Shillong, was admitted to NEIGRIHMS yesterday and passed away today morning. Cause of death was severe Covid pneumonia with Type 1 respiratory failure.
Meanwhile, another 187 cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the state today, with 72 being among returnees.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 141 of the new cases – 55 among returnees, 14 armed forces/paramilitaries, 31 high-risk contacts, five influenza-like illnesses (ILIs), nine through screening, one in Barapathar, one in Bishnupur, one in Happy Valley, one in Laban, one in Laitumkhrah, one in Lapalang, five in Lummawbah, four in Mawdiangdiang, two in Mawprem, three in Nongmynsong, three in Nongthymmai, three in Khyndailad and one in Umpling.
Ri-Bhoi reported 18 cases (12 returnees, four high-risk, two through screening), West Garo Hills 10 (eight high-risk, one returnee, one through screening), East Jaiñtia Hills six (four high-risk, two ILIs), West Jaiñtia Hills four (three high-risk, one ILI), West Khasi Hills four (three returnees, one high-risk), South Garo Hills two (one through screening, one returnee), South West Khasi Hills one (high-risk) and East Garo Hills one (armed forces/paramilitaries).
There were also 129 recoveries – 106 in East Khasi Hills, 10 in Ri-Bhoi, six in West Jaiñtia Hills, three in South West Khasi Hills, three in West Garo Hills and one in East Jaiñtia Hills.
There are now 1,531 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 1,094 active cases and Ri-Bhoi 155.In all, Meghalaya has had 16,617 Covid-19 cases, of which 1,531 are active, 14,917 have recovered and 169 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has fallen to 89.77 percent. The fatality rate is 1.02 percent. More than 2.73 lakh doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered as of today in the state.
