For only the fourth time this month, more than 100 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Meghalaya today. This took the total number of new infections in November past 1,500.
One more fatality from the virus was also recorded in East Khasi Hills, that of Holestar Sohlang (56) of Lyngiong. He was found to be Covid positive on Monday and was admitted to Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital in Shillong. He died yesterday afternoon of Covid-19 pneumonia with acute respiratory distress syndrome, severe metabolic acidosis and septic shock. His was the 85th death from the coronavirus in the district and 104th in the state.
There were 109 new infections today, along with 60 recoveries. There are now 801 active cases, to go along with 10,074 recoveries out of a total of 10,979 total Covid-19 cases in the state. The statewide fatality rate remains at 0.95 percent and that of East Khasi Hills is now 1.29 percent. There have been 1,527 new cases this month, a rise of 16 percent over the figure at the end of October.
Of the new infections East Khasi Hills accounted for 51, West Garo Hills 42 (14 of which were in the Cherangre cluster and seven in Dobasipara), Ri-Bhoi four, South Garo Hills four, East Garo Hills three, East Jaiñtia Hills two, North Garo Hills one, South West Garo Hills one and West Khasi Hills one.
The recoveries were divided between East Khasi Hills with 36, West Garo Hills nine, East Garo Hills five, West Khasi Hills four, Ri-Bhoi two, South West Garo Hills two, West Jaiñtia Hills one and South Garo Hills one.
The Health Department also informed that around 1,400 Covid-19 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours.
