Meghalaya recorded another six Covid-related deaths today, three of which were among people in their thirties.
The three relative youngsters were Tesmen Salahe (36), of Samasi in East Jaiñtia Hills; Ashutosh Kumar Singh (36), of Mission Compound in Jowai; and Synshar Jyrwa (35), of Pynthorbah in East Khasi Hills. The other three deceased were identified as Kresenia Mawrie (65), of Laitkor Rngi in East Khasi Hills; Rev Krickwin Ch Marak (70), of Tura; and Monmaya Sangma (75), of Khliehriat in East Jaiñtia Hills.
There were also 269 new cases of the disease in the state today.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 198 of the new infections – 18 among returnees, 11 armed forces/paramilitaries, 83 high-risk contacts, 38 influenza-like illnesses (ILIs), five through screening, two health workers, two police personnel, four severe acute respiratory infections (SARIs), one in Golf Links, one in Bishnupur, three in Jaiaw, two in Laban, one in Lachumiere, one in Laitumkhrah, three in Lapalang, four in Madanrting, five in Mawlai, one in Mawpat, two in Mawprem, two in Nongmynsong, two in Nongrim Hills, two in Nongthymmai, three in Khyndailad and two in Pynthorbah.
West Garo Hills reported 18 new cases (10 high-risk, five through screening, two returnees, one health worker), West Khasi Hills 13 (seven high-risk, two through screening, two returnees, two health workers), East Jaiñtia Hills 11 (four high-risk, three returnees, two ILIs, one through screening, one police), South Garo Hills eight (all through screening), West Jaiñtia Hills seven (three ILIs, three SARIs, one returnee), South West Garo Hills five (two returnees, one ILI, one through screening, one high-risk), Ri-Bhoi five (four ILIs, one through screening), East Garo Hills three (two ILIs, one health worker) and North Garo Hills one (through screening).
There were also 147 recoveries – 115 in East Khasi Hills, 12 in West Garo Hills, eight in Ri-Bhoi, three in South West Khasi Hills, three in East Garo Hills, two in West Jaiñtia Hills, two in East Jaiñtia Hills, one in West Khasi Hills and one in South West Garo Hills.
There are now 2,135 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 1,377 active cases, Ri-Bhoi 198, West Garo Hills 160 and West Jaiñtia Hills 101.
In all, Meghalaya has had 18,283 Covid-19 cases, of which 2,135 are active, 15,957 have recovered and 191 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has fallen to 87.28 percent. The fatality rate is 1.05 per cent. More than 3.21 lakh doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered as of today in the state.
