The tenth Covid-related fatality in West Garo Hills (and eight this month) was recorded today. Total Covid-19 cases in Garo Hills also passed 2,000, while Ri-Bhoi saw 172 recoveries, of which 129 were among police personnel.
The deceased was identified as Timish B Marak (65) of Tura. She was admitted to Tura Civil Hospital on November 15 and passed away early today morning of Covid-19 pneumonia.
With this latest fatality the state’s death toll from the disease now stands at 102, with a fatality rate of 0.95 percent. West Garo Hills’ fatality rate has increased to 0.74 percent.
Cases throughout the Garo Hills region are now 2,035 of which 1,355 have been recorded in West Garo Hills and the remaining 680 in the other four districts of the western range.
Meanwhile, there were 85 new cases of the coronavirus reported in Meghalaya today. East Khasi Hills accounted for 46 of these, West Garo Hills 18, South West Garo Hills 14, East Garo Hills two, Ri-Bhoi two, South Garo Hills two and East Jaiñtia Hills one.
There were also 283 recoveries (the highest number in a single day this month) of which Ri-Bhoi accounted for 172, East Khasi Hills 64, South Garo Hills 15, West Jaiñtia Hills 14, South West Garo Hills eight, West Garo Hills four, East Jaiñtia Hills three, East Garo Hills two and West Khasi Hills one.
There are currently 734 active Covid-19 cases in Meghalaya, out of 10,791 total infections. There have been 9,955 recoveries.
The Health Department also informed that roughly 1,500 Covid-19 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours.
