Syiem mentioned that the Congress party has developed a ten-point manifesto, highlighting its priorities, including the proposed amendment to the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
He noted that this amendment should benefit the local indigenous tribes.
Furthermore, Syiem stated that they aim to improve and streamline the functions of the Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary within the KHADC councils.
“We will work to enhance the financial position of the council by strengthening all the departments responsible for generating revenue,” he added.
Additionally, Jonathan Syiem, the Congress candidate from Sohryngkham, who filed his nomination at the Deputy Commissioner’s office told reporters that the proposed amendment to the Sixth Schedule is vital for further enhancing the functioning of the district councils.
Syiem added that this amendment would also facilitate direct funding to traditional institutions, similar to the Panchayati Raj system.
