Shillong, Apr 26: Social activist Greneth M Sangma has written to the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills over his concerns regarding the death of an 11-year-old girl, allegedly after hospitals declined to treat her.
The girl was suffering from a suspected case of rabies when she was turned away by both Tura Civil Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital, Sangma said, adding that he had gathered details of the case from the child’s father.
She had been referred from Dadenggre Community Health Centre to Tura Civil Hospital but had been refused care, Sangma said.
“When her family rushed her to Holy Cross Hospital in a desperate attempt to save her life, they were met with further refusal. This series of events led to the child passing away in an ambulance while returning home, effectively denied the right to medical care and the dignity of a peaceful end,” he added.
