Shillong, May 8: Sankardev College celebrated the grand finale of its College Week today, culminating a two week-long event of sports, literary, alumni and many other extra-curricular activities.
College Principal EFP Lyngdoh acknowledged the fervent participation from the students and the talents and potentialities showcased by them during the event.
Cabinet minister Wailadmiki Shylla was the chief guest. In his speech, he urged the students to imbibe the values of hard work and determination in order to face the challenges in life. He also encouraged the youth to actively involve themselves in extracurricular activities besides academics.
The minister awarded certificates of recognition to faculty members who have excelled in other areas beyond academics namely Sukjai Swer, Ibanylla Suzie Syiem, Parag Nath, Kashinath Chakraborty, Kenneth Chyne, Prainsing Syiemlieh, Mandy Kharbyngar and Shaikupar Kharshiing,
On the occasion, Rudi V Warjri, member of the governing body, also presented certificates to students who have successfully completed the computer courses by NIELIT, under the Union Ministry of Electronics and IT.
Other highlights of the programme included a cultural show reflecting the rich cultural diversity of students studying at the college, a video presentation of the journey of the college, musical performance by the students of the Khasi traditional music and performances by the winners of the singing and dancing competition.
