The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills has imposed orders in relation to the adjourned Sohiong Assembly seat poll, which will be held on May 10.
Arms licence holders must deposit their weapons and ammunition at the nearest police station, outpost or beat house without fail. The order did not specify whether it applies only to Sohiong constituency or to the whole of East Khasi Hills.
However, a separate order did explicitly state that it applies to the whole district.
In this order, the DM banned wall writing, pasting of posters, defacement in any other form, displaying of cut-outs, hoardings and/or banners on any public property. Such actions on public property are allowed subject to the acquisition of written permission from the landowner and permission from the DM.
No political parties or candidates are allowed to put up banners on roads. No public election meetings can be held without permission from the DM and relevant headman, no rallies or processions will be allowed and no public address system can be used outside the hours during 10pm to 6am.
The two orders came into force yesterday.
