Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma assured the outlawed Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) that all of its members who take part in face-to-face peace talks will be unmolested by the government.
The HNLC yesterday nominated three leaders, accompanied by two so-called personal security officers, for the talks. The government had earlier offered the militant outfit safe passage for any cadres who attend the negotiations. Sangma today reiterated that they will not face any issues.
Sangma said that it is the duty of the government to ensure the safety of each and every person who comes for the talks.
Unable to provide details of the peace talks, Sangma said that the government is positive the outcome will be successful and will do its best to ensure that a deal is struck.
