The Meghalaya United Christian Forum (MUCF) has strongly condemned the singing of a Christian song in a “blasphemous way” by NPP Williamnagar general secretary Georgeman Marak and his friends as seen in a video which went viral in the social media.
In the video which has already gone viral, Marak, along with five others is seen singing their version of the devotional song ‘I have decided to follow Jesus’. However, the word ‘Jesus’ was replaced with the word NPP.
The MUCF in a statement issued today termed it as an action that insulted and displayed contempt for faith and affecting the sentiments of the Christian community.
“It is very appalling to see their complete disregard to the spiritual and powerful song which has a powerful testimony of faith behind it,” the MUCF said.
It also requested election candidates and supporters of any political party “to refrain from dishonouring the Christian faith for their own agenda and political mileage.”
It may be mentioned that yesterday, UDP candidate from South Tura, John Leslee K. Sangma had filed an FIR with the Officer in-charge of the Tura Police Station seeking action against the NPP leader and all those involved in the act under Section 295 A of the IPC.
