The Annual Convention of Child Friendly Shillong, Bosco Integrated Development Society was held today at the Don Bosco Technical School hall.
Around 120 children from different child rights club in the target areas of child friendly Shillong participated during the convention.
Director of School Education and Health and Family Welfare RM Kurbah who attended the programme as the chief guest encouraged children to understand how to be leaders to lead their groups and to help each other, to practise patience as well as to update themselves to enable them to grow as members of different child rights club.
Secretary of Child Rights Nashwa Nongbet shared his experience as a member of a child rights club while Secretary of Dymmiew Child Rights Club Larisaphi Sunn spoke on children’s perspective of a child-friendly city.
Prizes were also distributed to winners of self-composed song competition and poetry writing competition on the theme, “Be Brave, be happy, be drug free” held during a campaign which began on December 5 organised by the Child Friendly Shillong in collaboration with Kripa Foundation
A short motivational video was also released on the occasion.
Children of Lumbatngen known as Childline Child Rights Club enthralled the audience with their melodious Christmas songs and children of Child Kingdom Club, KynjatPhutball, Lumparing presented their moves through a dance item.
Others who were present includes Fr. Genesius Wanniang Executive Director, Bosco Integrated Development Society, TR Mallai, Administrator BIDS, Iamonlang Syiem, Chairperson Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, ML Warjri District Child Protection Officer, East Khasi Hills, youth from Indian Institute of Professional Studies as well as members of Civil Society Forum from Spark, Viva Network Shillong, Kripa Foundation and Martin Luther Christian University.
