The Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately impose President’s Rule in Manipur to stop the ethnic conflict and violence against humanity.
In a letter to the PM through Governor Phagu Chauhan, the council said it is pained about the incident of gang rape and murder of two women and demanded those responsible be brought to justice.
“We appeal to your intervention to immediately impose President’s Rule so as to enforce rule of law in Manipur to stop and quell this unending violent ethnic conflict against women and communities which has today claimed over 125 precious lives,” chairman of the council John F Kharshiing said.
“When there is so much deployment of central Army and Paramilitary forces in Manipur why has law and order been allowed to deteriorate, literally collapse for which over 125 precious lives were lost and immeasurable damage of citizens property. Life of citizens has now been impacted forever due to this unchecked violent conflict,” he said.
“Will heads roll? Who will own responsibility for the loss of life and property?” he questioned.
