The Jal Shakti Ministry, which is responsible for water resources, has discovered for itself just how stunningly clear the Umngot River is.
In a tweet on its official handle, the ministry shared an image of a boat floating on the Meghalaya river. While well-known to everyone in the state, the clearness of the water makes it appear as if the boat is floating on air.
The post has received thousands of comments and retweets.
The Ministry described the Umngot as “one of the cleanest rivers in the world.” It did not mention that the river might have been under threat if a much-opposed hydroelectricity project had gone through.
