The All Jaintia Muster Roll Workers and Labour Union (AJMRWLU) has rejected the claim made by the state government that the Meghalaya Regular Casual Workers (RCW) Scheme 1996, an upgrade of categories to workers who had completed more than five years of service, has been fully implemented in all departments.
Addressing the media today, AJMRWLU president Daydowanphi Lakai said that many government departments have not yet implemented the scheme for the workers.
Lauding Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem for taking up the matter in the ongoing Assembly session, she said that the response by the Chief Minister that the scheme has been implemented in all government departments is untrue, especially in Jaintia Hills.
She said in the case of Jaintia Hills, some departments have fully implemented the scheme, some have not fully implemented it, while in some the scheme has not been implemented at all.
Lakai said that some departments have just given the status of the scheme but not the benefits under the scheme, while some have not even given the status of the scheme to the workers, like the Public Health Engineering (PHE) and the Arts and Culture Department.
“We are sad that even after almost 28 years of the notification of the scheme, we are yet to get the benefits,” she lamented, urging the CM to order officials in Jaintia Hills to implement the scheme for the workers in letter and spirit.
