Jowai town in West Jaiñtia Hills is among the 234 towns in the country to be covered soon under private FM radio channels.
The decision was taken at the Union cabinet meeting in New Delhi today chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The meeting approved the proposal for conduct of the third batch of ascending e-auction for 730 channels with an estimated reserved price of Rs 784.87 crore under the Private FM Radio Phase II Policy.
For Jowai, the number of private FM radio channels approved for auction is three.
The move to roll out private FM radio channels will lead to creation of new employment opportunities, boost to local dialect and culture, and ‘vocal for local’ initiatives.
