ACHIK, the A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima, has called on Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to make Tura the winter capital of Meghalaya.
In a long letter to the CM today, ACHIK put forward its arguments for the winter capital, saying that Tura had been envisioned as such by the founding fathers of Meghalaya, would decrease the distance to the capital by those in Garo Hills, attract investment and create jobs and promote equal development.
ACHIK also said that having Shillong as the sole capital has only benefitted the Khasi-Jaintia community and having Tura as the winter capital will address some of the imbalance. It will, it added, also promote communal harmony.
The group also called for the Additional Chief Secretary and Additional Director General of Police to be permanently stationed in Tura.
