In a joint operation with state police, the 43rd Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya seized a whopping 24 tonnes of processed betel nuts worth approximately Rs 48 lakh on the international border with Bangladesh.
The seizure was made in Rongra, South Garo Hills. The consignment of betel nuts was being stored there prior to its transportation to Assam. The betel nuts were entrusted to the local police station for further legal action.
In other operations, personnel of the 4th and 172nd Battalions of the BSF seized clothing items worth more than Rs 20 lakh from the border area of East Khasi Hills and East Jaintia Hills, which were intended to be smuggled into Bangladesh. The seized items were handed over to Customs officials for further action.
