Troops of the 4th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya foiled a smuggling bid and seized cosmetics and clothing items worth Rs 58 lakh before they could be smuggled over the international border into Bangladesh from East Khasi Hills.
The incident occurred yesterday. As the smugglers were in the process of transporting the goods, they were challenged by BSF personnel. The smugglers then fled, taking advantage of inclement weather and darkness.
The seized items were handed over to Customs officials in Pynursla for further action.
In a separate operation, troops from the 110th Battalion of the BSF Meghalaya successfully seized two wooden boats and four metal boats from the Shella River while Bangladeshi miscreants attempted to cross into Indian territory to steal and extract gravel and stone. No mention was made by the BSF regarding any arrests in this case.
