Troops of the Border Security Force (BSF), Meghalaya seized clothing items (sarees) worth more than Rs 24 lakhs from the bordering area of East Khasi Hills district, which were meant for smuggling into Bangladesh.
The consignment was seized by troops of the 4th battalion of the BSF from Pyrdiwah village, according to the BSF.
The clothing items were being transported in two vehicles. When the BSF team intercepted the two vehicles, the drivers fled, leaving behind their vehicles, BSF said.
The seized items have been handed over to customs Pynursla and FIR was lodged for further investigation and legal action.
Indian clothing and cosmetics items are in high demand in Bangladesh, which leads to illegal flow of these items into Bangladesh.
