In its continued special operations conducted against smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border, the Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya seized contraband items worth over Rs 31.27 lakh yesterday.
Acting on specific intelligence input, a series of operations were conducted by BSF personnel all along the international border of Meghalaya in areas of Shella, Mullpara and Omtham under East Khasi Hills District.
During these operations, a huge consignment of garlic, blankets, sugar, energy drinks, tea, fruits, cattle and Mahindra pickup vehicle, was intercepted and seized. The items were intended for smuggling into Bangladesh.
The seized contraband items have been handed over to the respective customs offices for further investigation and legal proceedings.
