The Jaiñtia Students Union (JSU) has demanded the repair of a concrete bridge at Wah Lakroh, on the Muktapur-Borkhat Road, which is in deplorable condition.
A delegation of the JSU’s War Jaiñtia unit, led by president Eddy Kery Pohtam, and the union’s Syndai unit, registered a complaint with the Public Works Department in this regard.
Expressing surprise that the bridge is already showing signs of deterioration despite being constructed to last 100 years, the JSU claimed that the structure has not been maintained for years. “These cracks in the bridge have appeared almost two months ago but this does not alarm the PWD and we feel that a thorough inquiry should be done on the matter,” the JSU said, adding that the impact of the bridge’s unusability will greatly affect the public, especially farmers of Ri War Jaiñtia and through West and East Jaiñtia Hills.
Meanwhile, the JSU Syndai unit also demanded repairs to the wooden bridge at Wah Amalokodo, also on the Muktapur-Borkhat Road, which has also started showing signs of deterioration.
