Angered at a video that has gone viral after where a young boy was allegedly thrown from a bridge near Garugittim village under Siju in South Garo Hills district, social activist Greneth Sangma has filed a police complaint seeking criminal action against those responsible for the act.
In the video that has gone viral on social media, a young boy can be seen pleading with a teenager who forcefully lifts him above the bridge rods of a hanging bridge before he is forcefully thrown over into the water, at least 20 metres below. The video also shows a large number of teens in the same age group as the perpetrator doing nothing to stop the act. Instead they continued to laugh and have fun. The boy is thrown into the water but manages to save himself by swimming to the side.
Most of those that appear in the video appear to be teens.
In the FIR filed at the Baghmara police station today, the activist called the act reckless as the child did not have any protective gear to save himself if he did not know how to swim.
Questioning the behaviour that put the life of the child in danger, the activist has sought action against the perpetrators.
However despite repeated calls to the superintendent of police of the district no confirmation on the incident could be made as the SP was unavailable for comment.
