Residents of the disputed Block 2 region have expressed gratitude to the Ri-Bhoi district administration for ensuring that polling on Friday for the Lok Sabha election went off smoothly.
Block 2 is currently disputed between Assam and Meghalaya and residents there had to travel into undisputed parts of Ri-Bhoi to cast their vote for Shillong parliamentary seat. The dispute between the two states meant that there were no polling stations for the 18 villages in Block 2 itself.
Ahead of the vote, the Synjuk ki Ranbha Shnong Border Area requested for greater security to ensure that voters of Block 2 would face no difficulty in travelling to their nearest polling station to cast a ballot. The Synjuk informed that, indeed, there were no reports of disruptions thanks to the efforts of the authorities.
The Synjuk president Blik Sohtun, also praised the peaceful participation of the residents of the area.
