A day after she called off her hunger strike following the state government’s promise to fix the Nongpoh-Umden-Sonapur Road, Bindas Syiem was admitted to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for treatment today and criticised the institute over its standards of care.
Syiem, who had been on hunger strike for six days, was on her way home yesterday when her condition took a turn and she was taken to hospital.
Upon her admission to Nongpoh Civil Hospital, Syiem raised serious concerns about the quality of care she received. She reported that the treatment provided was unsatisfactory and the attending medical staff, including both nurses and doctors, were not fulfilling their duties responsibly. According to Syiem, she had to stay the entire night without any medical supervision.
Syiem criticised the hospital staff for an apparent lack of concern and inadequate performance of their duties. Such neglect is intolerable, as patients require constant monitoring by medical professionals, she added while calling on the authorities to correct any failings.
