Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Pratima Bhoumik today virtually inaugurated the services of Composite Regional Centre (CRC) for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) in Shillong.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Bhoumik said the newly opened CRC will provide services required for PWDs and help in developing human resources in Meghalaya.
She said with 10 acres of land provided by the State government at Umsawli for construction of the permanent structure, the foundation stone would be laid within the shortest possible time.
Social welfare minister, Kyrmen Shylla was hopeful that the CRC will cater to the rehabilitation services for 21 categories of PWDs besides conducting skill development training for the Divyangjan.
He said the State government is committed and has been taking several initiatives like organising camps for distributing assistive aids and appliances, Universal ID Cards for Divyangjan, which will be valid all over the country.
The minister assured that the government will continue to support CRC Shillong to live up to its full potential.
East Shillong MLA, Ampareen Lyngdoh, DEPwD secretary, Anjali Bhawra, social welfare principal secretary, Sampath Kumar also spoke on the occasion.
The guests also distributed aids and appliances, teaching learning material kits to Divyangjan students as well as prizes to the winners of the min sports event conducted by NIEPMD, Chennai in collaboration with Bethany Society, Shillong.
